My second UX/UI challenge in Ironhack has been to design an online platform for a magazine, directed to meet one of the assigned User Personas’ needs and goals.

My role as UX and UI design for this challenge was based on the following process: user persona, competitor analysis, brand’s personality, mood boards, style tiles, site map, user flow, mid-fi, usability testing and hi-fi prototyping.

Overview

The rise of the digital press has seen a tremendous peak over the past few decades. The audience is increasing as Millennials grow older, demanding all sorts of content.

The best magazines and newspapers had already launched their digital version in early 2000, but it has been only in the last five years that the digital experience started to take shape.

Futur, our digital arts magazine, exceeds the expectations of these users in the present and in the future.

Competitor analysis

Crack Magazine, KALTBLUT and Vice are some of our competition — mainly with solid attributes and an open-minded personality.

Brand’s personality

“The Future is Now”

  • Topic: digital art magazine.
  • Attributes: arty, edgy, cyber, futuristic, freaky and urban.

Once we decided on our brand’s personality, we came up with two mood boards that evoke a particular style. While both of them have a specific nature and aesthetic, their differences make for a stark juxtaposition.

The 60% of people related to the next mood-board with our attributes, consequently guiding our style tile.

You can see the complete prototype on Figma — the experience is better!

After this UX/UI project, I would like to make a responsive design and adapt to other devices as the next steps.

Futur Magazine is a concept which I love. I have enjoyed working with my partner throughout the whole journey, and I hope that future challenges of this magnitude are coming very soon.
